A weekend of talks, events and gatherings. Capturing a snap shot of local publicly engaged art and sharing best practice. Gathering artists and organisers from across the UK to unpick creative learning.





the programme
Saturday 13th October.

Bringing together local publicly engaged artists and organisers.

1 till 2 -
Sharing our best bits + steeling ideas.
Participants will be split into small groups. Over brunch participants will be able to share their projects and images/footage/objects or text associated with their project to their group. Then groups are mixed again – this continues until all participants have shared and heard about all the projects being shared.




2 till 3 - Who is it for?
group discussion/anti post-it note collage about socially engaged work, making art as a job, successful ways of finding an audience, working in Hackney and further afield.

3 till 3:30 - break.

3:30 till 5 -
Build a model/construct an object - looking at your own practice/organisation.
Participants will build models of their own practices/organisations ; they will be encouraged to build a building or structure that represents their practice/organisation. Then in pairs participants will describe and discuss their works – finally, through peer coaching, alter and adjust their model as a way of re-accessing their practice/organisation.

Sunday 14th October

Gathering artists and organisers from across the UK to unpick creative learning, build models of their practice/organisations, discuss best practice and build new working relationships.

12 till 1 - Brunch + meet and greet.

1 till 2 – unpicking creative learning.
Pulling together a multitude of statements and policies that include creative learning – pulling out the best bits and reframing creative learning as we see it now. This workshop will be led by Jack, Laura , Lala, Matt and Nadia as part of their research for Extend’s 2012 leadership programme ‘extend’. The Extend team and working individually on different aspects of the following research question.

‘What is creative learning, where does it flourish, how does it happen and who is it for?’




2 till 3 - Model building exercise - looking at you organisation from the outside and peer coaching.
Participants will build models of their own practices/organisations ; they will be encouraged to build a building or structure that represents their practice/organisation. Then in pairs participants will describe and discuss their works – finally, through peer coaching, alter and adjust their model as a way of re-accessing their practice/organisation.

3 till 5 - Drinks.



What happened after Collection

The event was part funded by Engage and the Arts Council England. Laura, Matt, Nadia, Jack and Lala collected comments and ideas about creative learnign through our the weekend.

They also went into collect ideas/info about creative learning at an event they organised at Artspace in Coventry.
