Problem Solver. 2013. ~

“Have you got a mental block, are you feeling uninspired or have come to a creative cul de sac? Get in touch and we can create a problem solving workshop with 30 primary school pupils; full of ideas, happy to help and coming at your problem from a hundred and one angles, together we can crack it.”
An exciting opportunity for you to workshop a piece of your work with creative pupils. Working in the massive warehouse spaces of Hackney Downs Studios you can build, sculpt, project or dance through your work and get critical and frank feedback as well as hundreds of ideas for new works or new directions within your practice.

The first problem solver workshop will be taking place in the 25th June. Year 6 pupils from St Dominic's Roman Catholic Primary School will be helping artist Natasha Bird workshop some large scale sculptural works. Pupils and Natasha will spend the day working in teams, trying out materials, working out new configurations and devising new sculptural forms. ideas about Dens, barricades  hides and buildings will merge with freeze frames and performance and fleeting sculptural moments.

the first problem solver workshop did take place! - and it was brilliant

The pupils were amazing and responded to working in such a massive space. the morning session was made up of 2 minute tasks with groups of pupils and teachers moving to different materials each time. tasks included; make a den, making something as tall as possible, lift everything of the floor and keep it moving and make a pattern.

the afternoon saw each group discuss their plan for an artwork, experiment with fixing and gluing, then they got stuck in.

the resulting sculpture were really innovative and show a great sensitively for scale, shape and size.

we ended with a group crit - audio of which will be posted here soon.
